Behind the Scenes of Some Music That I Used to Love
After determining it would be too expensive/difficult to shoot at a sound-stage (we would have had to be there for an entire day of prep painting) Eric (graciously/insanely) decided to let us paint the wall in his home. Desiree Castro did an amazing job painting. She also painted all of the bodies in the video.
Of course, after we got everything we needed for the video with the wall painted, we filmed the shots where we white-washed everything. It was a very zen. All that work, and then we just rolled over it.
We almost had a similar “zen” experience when one of our hard drives crashed in post and nearly wiped out our entire project. FORTUNATELY, we were experienced enough to know you always BACK UP! and we barely lost a thing.
It was great working with Eric as usual, (even though he was naked for most of the video). And I’m always amazed at how he’s able to turn it on on-camera. He stays so positive throughout the shoot day, and works his ass off always… He even went and performed a set at a comedy club after shooting all day.
It was also great working with Melissa Villasenor who was awesome about the whole semi-nudity / body painting thing). It was my first time working with her and she was a lot of fun to collaborate with. My favorite moment was during her close-ups on the green screen for the head replacement gags we did (in the gas station and on the street bump). She really opened up during those takes and had me cracking up with her Kimbra “stalker” singing faces. It’s good we didn’t need audio for those shots, because I would have ruined them with my laughing.
